Saturday at the Waterfront

Saturday Feb 25, 2017 saw the Atlantic Merlin, arrived early morning and departed early afternoon. The Maersk Cutter was also in arriving early morning, and departed in the afternoon. The Atlantic Heron, is in along with the Belle Carnell, the Carnell seems to be having work done at the lower harbour.

The Navy Pays a Visit

Arriving Saturday Feb 18, 2017 was the HMCS Montreal. The ship tied up first to get fuel and the moved across the harbour. Commissoned in 1994, and had a big refit completed in 2013 in Halifax. She is 440 feet and has a speed of 30 knots, powered by 2 gas turbines, and one pielstick diesel.

Legionnaire to Replace the Veteran

The ferry Legionnaire departed St. John's at 1700hrs Feb 4, 2017 heading for Fogo. The Veteran is going to have 2 weeks of maintenance work completed and while she is out of service, the Legionnaire will fill in. The Veteran is having the work done in Lewisporte, and once the Veteran goes back into service, the Legionnaire will tie up in Lewisporte until she starts the Bell Island run.

Another cold one at sea and on land

The Burin Sea arrived this morning at the fuel dock, she had a little bit of spray on her coming in from the Hibernia Platform, she shifted from the fuel dock to the base once fuelling was completed. The Avalon Sea was in, the Atlantic Kingfisher arrived iced up from a night at sea from the Searose FPSO.

Saturday's Comings and Goings

A cold Saturday saw the freighter Astron depart and head to Argentia. The Astron is owned by the Woodward Group, and during the summer brings freight from Lewisporte to northern Labrador. The Astron has been around a while, being built in 1971.

Arriving was the supply vessel Avalon Sea, built in 2016 and 87 meters long. She services the Hibernia field

The new Newfoundland Victor, the older Newfound Pioneer and supply vessels

Also arriving Feb 2, 2017 was the Newfound Pioneer, she measures 67 meters long, gross tonnage of 2294 and is owned by Newfound Resources.

The brand New Newfoundland Victor arrived Feb 2, 2017 from Norway. She is 72 meters long and a gross tonnage of 4,642, she was built in Norway and owned by Fame Fisheries Limited.

Arriving also the week under tow, was the 49 year old Sound of Islay, she is to undergo a 6 million refit


Another tug for dry-dock

 The Atlantic Cedar shown on dry dock getting a new paint job. The tug is 30.8 meters long, gtoss tonnage 400, and built in 2005.
