Avalon Sea departs for trials

The brand new Avalon Sea departed May 28, 2016 to go just outside in Freshwater Bay for trials and return a few hours later.  She measures 87 meters long, and has a gross tonnage of 5,733.

Seefalke departs

The German fisheries support vessel Seefalke departed St. John's today after a brief visit. built in 2008 she measures 72 meters, she is headed to the Flemish cap.

Cruise Ship Arrival #2

The second cruise ship of the season arrived St.John's May 21, 2016, the first was the Balmoral owned by Fred Olsen, the second arrival was Boudicca also owned by Fred Olsen. She was built in 1973, she ca

n carry just over 500 passengers and was built at a cost of 22.5 million

Panuke Sea and Polar boats

With the arrival of the Amazon Conqueror, within a day the Panuke Sea and Polar Prince arrived. The Prince is the former CCGS Sir Humphrey Gilbert, she was also used last year as a chase boat.

Seismic Activity

The AMAZON CONQUEROR arrived St. John:s May 14, 2016. A fairly new ship having been built in 2014, she measures 126 meters, and is 22,850 gross tons. The ship is owned by Schlumberger Norge and is managed by Western Geco. The vessel will do  9,000 square KM seismic survey on the flemish pass off Newfoundland.

Back from research

The Irish flagged CELTIC EXPLORER arrived in St. Johns this morning after a trip to the South Coast. Built in 2002, she is 65 meters long, operations of the ship is overseen by the Marine Institute Ireland

Today brought two returning ships to St. Johns, the German research vessel MARIA S. MERIAN which visits here every spring is a beautiful ship and the GRAND MANAN V seems to be a stand by ferry arrived this morning for refit

A grey, but busy day

A good day ship watching today. The OCEANEX CONNAIGRA departed for Halifax, the tug POINT VIM departed as well as the SKANDI CHIEFTAIN arriving from the south coast area. The Japanese vessel FUKUYOSHI MARU NO 68 was in, as well as the TERRY FOX.

Waiting for parts

It seem that the crew of the VETERAN took advantage of  down time and took one of the ships lifeboats for cruise around the harbor while they wait for parts to fix a propulsion unit

Another tug for dry-dock

 The Atlantic Cedar shown on dry dock getting a new paint job. The tug is 30.8 meters long, gtoss tonnage 400, and built in 2005.
