Christmas Trip to Lewisporte

While in Lewisporte recently, the Coast Guard ship Sir Wilfred Grenfell was in until after Christmas and also in was the ferry Capt. Earl W. Windsor, this ship is laid up, missing was the Bond which is tied up in Clarenville.

A Quiet Sunday

Sunday morning was fairly quite at the port with two arrivals, and one departure. The Burin Sea arrived along with the Oceanex Sanderling, the only departure was the Maersk Dispatcher.

Bond is Gone to take up new role

The Sir Robert Bond departed Lewisporte Dec 1, 2016 at around 1900hrs heading to Clarenville and under command of Capt. Keith Stuckless, ready to take on her new role running to the United States from New Brunswick. It was fitting that my father who spent many years on her as chief engineer and my father in law as captain, took her for the last time out of Lewisporte

She is now in Clarenville tied up at Burrys Shipyard where she will undergo maintenance to get ready for her new life.

Some other Happenings

Anchored out in Conception Bay is the tanker Asterion, which offloaded in Holyrood, its been anchored for the past week awaiting orders, built in 2011, she measures 184 meters and 23,248 tons and is registered in France.

Work continues on the Beaumont Hamel, built in 1985 she is having major work completed on its hull 

Like a lot of shpply vessels the Atlantic Kingfisher and Atlantic Raven are in lay-up

Waiting to Start

The new ferry the Legionnaire arrived about two weeks ago. The ship is shown tied up in St. John's waiting for work to be done on the wharf in Portugal Cove, they are also installing a type of vacuum mooring system. The ship is 266 feet and 4300 horsepower.

Still Busy

The anchor handling supply vessel Masersk Dispatcher shown arriving St. John's Nov 11, 2016, the vessel is still busy despite the slow down in the oil industry and with 500 supply vessels laid up worldwide. The Dispatcher and sister ship Maersk Detector are servicing the Whiterose Field, built in 2005 and 2006 and rated at 18,000 horse power, theses ships are real workhorses of the offshore.

Sten Fjord in Long Pond

The tanker Sten Fjord arrived in Long Pond today after being anchored off waiting for the Florence Spirit to depart, the Fjord had came from Rankin Inlet in the Arctic. The Sten Fjord was built in 2004, and is 145 meters long.

Waiting to arrive Holyrood

The tanker Nave Equinox was anchored in Conception Bay today waiting to arrive Holyrood. The ship was built in 2007 and registered in Marshall Islands, and measures 183 meters, and gross tons 30,119. These tankers arrives bringing oil to the Holyrood generating station, which generates power for Newfoundland, and when all generators are running the plant burns 18000 barrels a day.

The tanker Havelstern arrived in Lewisporte Oct 23, 2016 from the Arctic, also the coast guard ship Sir Wilfred Grenfell arrived on Oct 23, 2016.

Owned by the Woodward Group, the ship was built in 1994

Another tug for dry-dock

 The Atlantic Cedar shown on dry dock getting a new paint job. The tug is 30.8 meters long, gtoss tonnage 400, and built in 2005.
