Gotland Sophia Christmas visit and other happenings - update

The big tanker GOTLAND SOPHIA arrived Lewisporte Dec 22, 2015 after spending a few days off Loon Bay, Newfoundland doing fuel transfers to the ALSTERSTERN, TRAVESTERN and HAVELSTERN. The ALSTERSTERN and TRAVESTERN went to Conception Bay, the ALSTERSTERN will be heading to Venezuela, while the TRAVESTERN went to Halifax for fuel, then headed to Freeport. The HAVELSTERN arrived back in Lewisporte after the GOTLAND SOPHIA departed Christmas day for Come by Chance, the NANNY is currently in Conception Bay.

Dean, curious as to why " STERN TANKERS" fuel up of lewisporte & head to conception bay. Doe they just take fuel for themselves or also take cargo for elsewhere. Or is because they could be used later in case lewisporte freezes up. Also will ALSTERTERN carry canadian crew while heading to venezuela i persume to pick up cargo for some port in canada ? Hi Bob, they have a storage facility in Long Pond. They take fuel I think for themselves like the Arctic, Labrador coast. They will use a icebreaker to get in or out of Lewisporte if need be. I think they are taking a Canadian crew, I'm not sure what they are going to be doing in these other ports, got this from Marine traffic

Another tug for dry-dock

 The Atlantic Cedar shown on dry dock getting a new paint job. The tug is 30.8 meters long, gtoss tonnage 400, and built in 2005.
