Lewisporte this past week was busy, with the Astron in port loading for northern Labrador ports. The Travestern was in loading for Arctic ports, after she took cargo off a bigger tanker anchored off Loon Bay. After the Travestern departed, the Alsterstern arrived to load jet fuel for Arctic ports. The next arrival was the Silver Point, a larger tanker measuring 183 meters and 29,717 gross tons, the ship is fairly new being built in 2011, and of course a permanent fixture these days in Lewisporte the Sir Robert Bond.
The anchor handler / supply vessel Maersk Laser arrived in St. John's this past week. The ship was built in 2010 in Germany and is owned by Maersk Supply of Denmark. A very powerful ship rated at 23,500 horsepower, she measures 90 meters.
From the middle of June till the end saw lots of tanker traffic in Lewisporte. Two foreign tankers the FPMC 17 and the ELKA NIKOLAS arrived and anchored off Loon Bay, the ALSTERSTERN, TRAVESTERN, HAVELSTERN, NANNY and DORSCH took cargo off bringing it to Lewisporte then the Arctic. Photos were taken by my dad, showing some of the activity.
