Gotland Sophia Christmas visit and other happenings - update
The big tanker GOTLAND SOPHIA arrived Lewisporte Dec 22, 2015 after spending a few days off Loon Bay, Newfoundland doing fuel transfers to the ALSTERSTERN, TRAVESTERN and HAVELSTERN. The ALSTERSTERN and TRAVESTERN went to Conception Bay, the ALSTERSTERN will be heading to Venezuela, while the TRAVESTERN went to Halifax for fuel, then headed to Freeport. The HAVELSTERN arrived back in Lewisporte after the GOTLAND SOPHIA departed Christmas day for Come by Chance, the NANNY is currently in Conception Bay.

Capt. Earl W. Winsor arrives Lewisporte
The Capt. Earl W. Winsor arrived Lewisporte Dec 19, 2015 after many years operating between Fogo Island and Farewell. The ferry is being replaced by the new ferry the Veteran, which took up the run Dec 19, 2015.

Acadian departs and Flanders in for work
The tanker Acadian departed St. John's today bound for Saint John, NB. The ship is a common site in St. John's bringing in petroleum product.

While in refit this past July in Gibraltar, the ship was fitted with a exhaust gas scrubber
this allows the ship to burn heavy fuel and still comply with low gas emissions requirements
for the US and coastal Canadian coastal waters

Haze Goteborg and other Happenings
The cargo ship Hanze Goteborg arrived St. John's today from Bull Arm. The ship built in 2013 in China is 180 meters long and gross tons of 24,210.
The Maersk Dispatcher arrived today, also the Belle Isle Banker was in as well.

Laid up for winter
Three tankers from the Woodward group have arrived Lewisporte for the winter, the Alsterstern, Travestern and Havelstern. The Dorsch and Nanny are currently operating on the Labrador coast.

Fairlift departs after making delivery
The heavy lift ship Fairlift departed St.John's at 1400hrs bound for the English Channel. The ship arrived to drop a new crane for Oceanex after one of their cranes caught fire in Sept.

The tuna boats are back
The fall once again brings back the little Japanese tuna boats for supplies and fuel. The Seiko Maru No. 52 shown in the photo getting fuel. At 51 meters and a gross tonnage of 499 and built in 1996, she is quite small.
The Sumiyoshi Maru No 81, was built in 1998, and measures 51 meters and is 499 gross tons

Trawlers and others
Today saw the Santa Malfalda, a Portuguese fishing vessel arrived, docking near another Portuguese fishing vessel the Coimbra, also arriving today the Ramform Viking, a research vessel.
The Maersk Nascopie departed for trials, the Oceanex Connaigra departed for Montreal, also in port was the Atlantic Explorer another research vessel, arrived the day before.

New Ferry Arrival and back after long trip North
The brand new ferry Veteran arrived in St. John's this pass weekend from a shipyard in Romania. The trip took a while, engine problems and bad weather delayed the arrival. The ship is rather a fine looking ship, her capacity is 200 passengers and 60 vehicles and is 80 meters long.

Another Big Tanker for Lewisporte
The latest arrival for Lewisporte is the Gold Point. The ship built in 2011 in South Korea and is owned by PB tankers of Italy, it measures 183 meters, and a gross tonnage of 29,717.

Cruise Ship Visits
This past week in St. John's was busy with cruise ship arrivals. Notable arrivals were the Eurodam, which was here many times. The big arrival was the Regal Princess, this was the largest ship to enter St. John's at 330 meters (1,083 feet) and a gross tonnage of 142,714 and passenger capacity of 3560.
The Albatros arrived in port today Sept 24, a little smaller she measures 205 meters and a passenger capacity of 1000.

Remoy for work - Update
The Norwegian fishing vessel arrived St. John's last week for what I would think is to have work done. The ship was built in 2001 and is 64 meters long and is owned by Cold Water Prawns of Norway. The ship is the only trawler in Norway that fishes exclusively for prawns, that's according to there website.
Remoy has been renamed Sivulliq and is registered in Iqaluit

Sanco Spirit and Floragracht
The research vessel Sanco Spirit was also in port, at 70 meters long, she was built in 2009 and is owned by Sanco Shipping of Norway.
The cargo ship Floragracht was in St. John's on Sept 9, 2015, both arrived Sept 8, 2015. The Floragracht was built in 2011 and is 138 meters long and is owned by Spliethoffs Beveachtingskantoor of the Netherlands

The new Maersk Cutter, the last of two supply ships to be built in Chile arrived in St. John's Sept 8, 2015, she is a sister to the Maersk Clipper.

Another big arrival for Lewisporte
Another big arrival arrived Lewisporte this past week. This time its the Stena Conquest, arriving and tying up at Woodwards Oil. The ship was built in 2003, gross tons is 27,512, she is 182 meters long, 32 meters wide and is registered in Bermuda. (photos taken by my dad)

New England makes second visit
The tanker New England visited St. John's Aug 13, 2015. The ship is on charter to Irving, is registered in the Marshall Islands and was built in 2005. Irving applied for a coasting licence to have the ship make some local trips while the Acadian is on refit in Gibraltar.

Lewisporte ...busy
Another recent trip to Lewisporte I was able to photograph the Astron loading again for Labrador. the ferry Sound of Islay having work done, and the tanker Dorsch made a stop before heading to the Arctic.

Older Arrival
The cruise ship Marco Polo arrived St. John's early this morning. The ship built in 1965 in Germany, is 176 meters long and is owned by Global cruise Lines in Greece.
