Oceanex Connaigra departs St. John's

The Oceanex Connaigra departed St.John's approx. 1030hrs today April 26, 2014 her destination is Belfast, Ireland, due to arrive their on May 2, 2014.

I am thinking that is where she will undergo repairs to her controllable pitch propeller, due to no dry-dock available in Canada. Her replacement the Cabot has already arrived here and departed again.

CCGS Sir Wilfred Grenfell going back into service

VOCM reported last week, that a internal memo came out advising that the coast guard has reversed its decision, that the Grenfell and Coast Guard Cutter Harp will go back into service. Merv Wiseman a local advacate says the Grenfell will now need to be dry-docked before it goes into service. The reason for the reversal is the vessel will be needed while other vessels in the fleet go into vessel extension refits. Photo shows the Grenfell secured in March 2014.

Highlanders and Blue Puttees stuck in ice

I'm hearing reports that the Marine Atlantic ferries Highlanders and Blue Puttees are stuck in ice tonight just off North Sydney. The Blue Puttees departed Port aux Basques this morning and the Highlanders departed North Sydney this evening and both got stuck. I'm also hearing the icebreaker Henry Larsen is en route to help.
The big question I have what is going on with the Louis S St. Laurent and Terry Fox, both are in Halifax...why not send them??

Another tug for dry-dock

The Atlantic Cedar shown on dry dock getting a new paint job. The tug is 30.8 meters long, gtoss tonnage 400, and built in 2005.
