High & Dry

Kurt Paul makes a visit - twice

The cargo vessel Kurt Paul visited St. john's twice since Friday. The ship arrived on Friday, but due to wind conditions could not get along side the dock, so it headed out to sea, and came back in on Saturday.
The ship made a short visit, dropping off what looked like transformers, that could be used for the offshore oil fields.

CCGS Cygnus - big refit

The CCGS Cygnus as shown on dry-dock in St. John's Mar 15, 2014 undergoing a vessel extension refit, worth $1.2 million.
The work according to the Fisheries and Oceans website includes steel renewals and will include replacement and alignment of tall shift, repairs to main mast and a new anchor. The Cygnus built in 1982, this refit will extend her life to 2022.

Earl Grey fixes buoy in Port aux Basques

The Earl Grey shown in this photo putting a buoy back in place in Port aux Basques harbor. The buoy moved off its position due to wind and tide. The arrival of the Highlanders was delayed until the buoy was put back in position.

TransFighter in Corner Brook

The Transfighter was built in 2001, measures 178.6 meters, gross tonnage 20,857, and flies the flag of Gibraltar

Another tug for dry-dock

 The Atlantic Cedar shown on dry dock getting a new paint job. The tug is 30.8 meters long, gtoss tonnage 400, and built in 2005.
