Another woodward tanker makes run for Irving

Another tanker from the woodward group made a visit to St. john's for Irving, this time it was the Havelstern arriving from Saint John, just days earlier was the Alsterstern.

Fishing Vessel Cape Dorset gets a little help

The fishing vessel Cape Dorset arrived in St. John's today under tow by the supply vessel Maersk Gabarus. I don't know what the problem is, but she was a dead ship. This is the third time the Cape Dorset has been towed into St. John's.

New ships for Fogo and Bell Island Runs

Local news is reporting today in St. John's. A Dutch company called Damen Shipyards has been awarded the $51 million and the new ship will be able to carry 200 passengers, 60 cars, and will be 80 meters long and will be delivered 2015.

They also announced plans to purchase a 80 meter ferry for the Bell Island run. They will also spent $10 million is wharf improvements at Bell Island and Portugal cove to handle the larger new ferry.

Mokami flag changed, Lady Remington III name changed

A fixture on the waterfront in St. John's for the past two years or so, the Lady Remington III, is now the Navi Wind.

The tanker Mokami owned by the Woodward group was up for sale a while ago, and according to Marine Traffic her flag has been changed to Bolivia. I do not have any further information on either of these ships. Maybe someone does.

Placentia Hope

The tug Placentia Hope is shown tied up in St. John's Oct 20, 2013. The tug operates in Placentia Bay at Whiffen Head escorting tankers. She has been in on dry-dock the last few weeks, getting fresh paint and having other work done as well.

The Woodward Group tanker Alsterstern arrived St. John's Oct 20, 2013 with a load of petroleum products. The ship is making a run for Irving, her last port of call was Saint John, NB

The new Oceanex Connaigra arrived in St. John's early this morning with her first load of containers, cars and trucks (Oct 13, 2013) from Halifax filling in the Oceanex Sanderling while she is on dry-dock in Halifax

The brand new Oceanex Connaigra arrived St. John's Oct 4, 2013 on its maiden voyage from Germany. At 210 meters long, and a gross tonnage of 26,800 its the largest in the fleet.

Oceanex Ready for arrival of new ship

Vocm news reported on there website that there new ship the Oceanex Connaigra has completed sea trials and is expected to arrive in St. John's next weekend. It will stay in St. John's a few days, then will head to Halifax to fill in for the Oceanex Sanderling goes to dry-dock, it will then move on to Montreal to provide a fixed weekly service between Montreal and St. John's. No Word, if the new ship will replace either ship.

Coast Guard Vessel Out

VOCM is reporting that the CCGS Sir Wilfred Grenfell has been taken out of service. The ship entered cold lay-up last Monday, the crew taken off, spare parts removed, the ship will be out until next April.
Local activist and former Coast Guard employee Merv Wiseman, in his experience, once this happens to a ship they never return to service.

This is another case of the Federal Government downgrading Search & Rescue service in Newfoundland and Labrador, in my opinion and this will continue to endanger the people who make their living from the sea

Placentia Pride on dry-dock

The tug Placentia Pride as shown on dry-dock Sept 5, 2013 in St. John's. The vessel is 38 meters long and 5600 horse power. It is used to escort large tankers in and out of the port of Whiffen Head located in Placentia Bay, Newfoundland. It was built in 1998, and is owned by Newfoundland Transshipment Limited, and operated by Canship Ugland Ltd

The little cruise ship National Geographic Explorer arrived in St. John's Sept 7, 2013. The ship built in 1982, is registered in the Bahamas, and is 112 meters long.

Astor arrives, and Departs

The cruise ship Astor arrived St. John's Aug 31, 2013 at around 0700hrs and departed at 1200hrs for Ireland.
A nice little ship, a little small compared to today's ships. It measures 177 meters, and was built in 1987, and was carrying less then 500 people when it visited St. John's

Siem Amethyst...another new arrival

The Siem Amethyst, a anchor handling vessel arrived in St. John's Aug 28, 2013 for fuel and supplies and departed Aug 30, 2013 for Bull Arm.
The ship built in 2011, is 92 meters long and 7,473 gross tons and flies the Norwegian flag.

Deep Pioneer arrives for fuel

The Deep Pioneer a multipurpose deep water support vessel arrived St. John's Aug 26, 2013 for fuel and supplies. A very impressive looking ship with all the equipment on her stern, has been working off the coast of Newfoundland this summer. The vessel is 156 meters long, and flies the Marshall Islands flag.

Polar Prince back

The former Sir Humphrey Gilbert, now the Polar Prince arrived in St. John's Aug 16, 2013. The ship left from British Columbia and travelled through the Northwest Passage and to St. John's. The Ship has since departed again and I don't know where she headed or what she will be doing.

D. Carlos 1 in port

The Portuguese military vessel D. Carlos 1 visited St. John's Aug 19, 2013 as part of a memorial for Portuguese fisherman.

The Cruise ship Amadea visited St. John's Aug 19, 2013. The ship is 190 meters long, gross tons 29,088. A little small compared to other cruise ships, but still a nice ship. The vessel departed this evening for St. Pierre

Wellservicer...back again

The Wellservicer, a diving support vessel is back again in St. John's this year. The ship built in 1989 is 100 meters long is owned by Technip UK LTD. The vessel is currently working on the whiterose field.

Big Visitors

This past week in St. John's we had a couple big ships visiting. The Deep Pioneer, a diving support vessel built in 1984 is doing work at the oil field off St. John's. The Happy Diamond visited a day or so after that and secured along side the Deep Pioneer.

Largest solar powered Vessel Visits

The Turanor Planetsolar arrived in St. John's Aug 1, 2013 for a four day visit before heading across the Atlantic to Europe, It flies the flag of Switzerland. The ship is powered by 520 square meters of solar panels. According to the telegram its on a 6 month expedition studying the gulf stream.

Apache II

The pipe layer Apache II as shown arriving St. John's Aug 1, 2013. The ship built in 2009, is 132 meters long and flies the Bahamas flag. It will be doing work at the Whiterose Field off Newfoundland.

Another tug for dry-dock

 The Atlantic Cedar shown on dry dock getting a new paint job. The tug is 30.8 meters long, gtoss tonnage 400, and built in 2005.
