Waiting for something to do

The waterfront at St. John's is full of supply vessels waiting for work. The ATLANTIC KINGFISHER, MAERSK CHANCELLOR, MAERSK CHALLENGER, MAERSK CHIGNECTO and MAERSK GABARUS are secured while the oil rigs they serve are in refit. The Henry Goodrich is in Pascagoula, MS at signal Internationl Shipyard and the GSF Grand Banks is undergoing refit in Halifax, Nova Scotia

Russian Ship Luybov Orlova sold

CBC News today reported that the Luybov Orlova which has been in St. john's for approx a year and a half has been sold to a Norwegian company and the new owner wants the ship in europe as quickly as possible.

From reports on the CBC no one will be sorry to see it gone, as the ship has no heat, no generators operating, only the port authority checking on the ship. The ship could be gone by the end of Feb, depending on how quickly the deal closes

The ship has accrued more then $200,000 in berthing fees since it was arrested, and the CBC Newfoundland reported the vessel has been sold for $275,000.

Apollo heading for refit

The ferry APOLLO will head to refit after todays departures according to Labrador Marine's website.

The Apollo is expected to be in refit for 2 months and her replacement will be the SIR ROBERT BOND. The Bond will however operate from Corner Brook instead of St. Barbe, because the Bond is to large to safely navigate the smaller port of St. Barbe. Another tug for dry-dock

 The Atlantic Cedar shown on dry dock getting a new paint job. The tug is 30.8 meters long, gtoss tonnage 400, and built in 2005.
