This service is provided by the Flanders and Beaumont Hamel and the trip takes 15-20 minutes.

Atlantic Vision Departs St. John's

The Atlantic Vision departed St. John's Dec 13, 2008 for North Sydney, there crew training will be finished and operations will be completed to get the vessel ready to start on the gulf run March 1, 2009.

CCGS Terry Fox

The CCGS Terry Fox departed St. John's Dec 14, 2008 en route to the Quebec Region to assist in icebreaking operations, this is the three years in a row that the Terry Fox has assisted the Quebec Region in icebreaking.

Marine Atlantic's New Ferry

Further to my previous post, the Atlantic Vision is on a 5 year charter at $101 million.
The Vision has replaced the Atlantic Freighter, which has ployed the gulf for some 18
years. The Leif Ericson will become the freight vessel, and the Freighter will be put up for sale.

Marine Atlantic's New Ferry

The Atlantic Vision arrived in St. John's Dec 7, 2008 from Finland. The vessel crossed from Dover to St. John's in five days.
The Atlantic Vision built in 2002 in Kiel, Germany is the former Superfast IX, she is 203 meters long (667 feet) and 82 feet wide. Her car capacity is 531, her gross tonnage is 30,285 and is 46000 kw (over 60,000 hp) Photo shows her in St. John's

Labrador Ferry Service Finished

The Labrador Ferry service has concluded for the winter. The Sir Robert Bond arrived Lewisporte Dec 4, 2008, the Northern Ranger arrived Lewisporte Dec 3, 2008 and the Astron arrived in St. John's Dec 5, 2008.

Sir Robert Bond

The ferry Sir Robert Bod is presently on her way from Nain, Labrador to Cartwright and then to Lewisporte.
The Bond arrived in Nain Dec 1, 2008 in the afternoon and departed at around 2200hrs, this is the first trip to Nain for Bond, she has nver been that far North to my knowledge, the Bond is finish the Labrador Ferry Service for this year.

The Northern Ranger is also finish, that vessel is due to arrive Lewisporte Dec 3, 2008 where she will lay up until next year

Dorsch arrives St. John's

The tanker Dorsch arrived in St. John's this morning. The tanker left the Arctic, came down the coast of Labrador delivering oil to communities and then to St. John's, where she will probaly stay for the winter.

Labrador Ferry to make 2 more trips

The Labrador Ferry Sir Robert Bond will make two more trips to Labrador before the end of the Season, the two trips will be to Cartwright.
The Northern Ranger is currently on its way to Nain, as well as the Astron.

Labrador Shipping Season winding down

The seasonal passenger and freight service to Labrador is almost finished for another year.
The terminals in Lewisporte and Goose Bay have stopped accepting freight and the vessels are busy getting it to Labrador.
The ships servicing Labrador are Sir Robert Bond, Northern Ranger and the Astron.

In a few short weeks the vessels will be heading for winter lay-up.

Tanker Nanny

The Nanny arrived in St. John's this past week after arriving from Gothenburg, Sweden.
The Nanny built in 1993 is now owned by Coastal Shipping (Woodward Group of Companies) is 116.59 meter's long, 19 meter's wide and a gross tonage of 6,544.
The tanker arrives in a fleet that consits of the Mokami, Sibyl w, Tuvaq and the Dorsch and the ferry Apollo, along with the coastal freighter Astron. The Woodward group also manages the Sir Robert Bond, Northern Ranger.

The Icebreaker Terry Fox as shown approaching St. John's Oct 12, 2008 returning from the Arctic.
The ship spent almost four months there resupplying towns, science work where they would survey the ocean floor and they would also escort shipping through the ice.

Last Cruise ship of the Season

The last cruise ship of the season arrived in St. John's today Oct 9, 2008, the Saga Ruby arrived this morning and will leave this evening for Southampton. The local news said she brought about 500 passengers to the port.

Visit from Navy Vessel

This past weekend, the HMCS Toronto paid a visit to St. John's. According to the local paper, the ship was open to the public for viewing.

The Offshore supply base in St. John's is a very busy place, pictured is the Atlantic Eagle, Maersk Nascopie and Maersk Detector.

Oceanex Avalon

The container ship Oceanex Avalon was in St. John's Today Aug 31, 2008 on a weekly visit from Montreal.

According to a article in Maritime Magazine, about 50% of the goods entering Newfoundland enters the province through Oceanex.

The Supply vessel Maersk Detector arrived back in St. John's Aug 31, 2008 from Aberdeen, see attached photo of her arrival today.

New Cruise Ship Eurodam Visits St. John's

The Eurodam visited St. John's Aug 24, 2008. This brand new ship made her maiden voyage July 5, 2008. Built in Italy she measures 935 feet and has a gross tonnage of 86,700.

Another tug for dry-dock

 The Atlantic Cedar shown on dry dock getting a new paint job. The tug is 30.8 meters long, gtoss tonnage 400, and built in 2005.
